Studio Notes
I rarely know exactly what a painting is about when I begin.
I usually start with color, movement or a loose idea and respond to what happens on the surface. Meaning tends to come later. Sometimes I recognize something from my work with people. Sometimes a place or experience has found its way in. And sometimes I don't understand what I've made until I’ve lived with it for a while.
Studio Notes is where I tell some of those stories.
Below, you’ll find individual works along with what I see in them, where they came from and, occasionally, what surprised me once they were finished.
